Yann Sommer is getting better and better at FC Bayern and has big goals with the record champions. He wants to be a “top goalkeeper” for Munich. The 34-year-old Swiss doesn’t want to think about the fact that his situation could change drastically in a few months.

Goalkeeper newcomer Yann Sommer agrees with the first few weeks since moving to Bayern Munich. “In the early stages, there were things in the build-up that weren’t perfect. But that’s working very well now. I’m basically satisfied, but I always want to improve. I want to be a top goalkeeper for Bayern Munich,” said the Swiss “foosball”.

Sommer had switched from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Munich shortly before the end of the winter break because the record champions had an unexpected need after Manuel Neuer’s injury. “The medical tests ran into the night, the next day the final training session, the signing of the contract, getting to know the team and the flight to Leipzig. And then a top game. I concentrated on football,” said the 34-year-old.

Sommer now said about his relationship with Neuer: “We see each other almost every day and have very good contact. We already knew each other and often played against each other.” Sommer does not want to deal with a possible comeback of the top dog and the associated fight for the place. “I’m not worrying about that at the moment. We have great challenges ahead, that’s what I’m concentrating on.” In the coming week there will be a round of 16 second leg (first leg 1-0 for FC Bayern) in the Champions League with Paris St. Germain.

The 36-year-old newcomer suffered a broken leg after the World Cup debacle with the German national team in Qatar, and Bayern brought in Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach as a replacement during the winter break. “It actually happened relatively quickly. I’ve been in the business for a long time, I know what it’s like to join a new team and what’s important.”
