Gina Lückenkemper is the fastest woman in Germany: The 25-year-old finishes well ahead of the competition in the sprint final of the German championship. The men’s title in the Berlin Olympic Stadium goes to a debutant.

Gina Lückenkemper stormed to her third German championship title over 100 meters under the mark of eleven seconds and has proven again four years after the European Championship silver that she is back in old form. In 10.99 seconds, the 25-year-old was only four hundredths of a second short of her personal best at the German Athletics Championships in Berlin. “I love the Olympic Stadium, I love the crowd here. It’s something very special for me,” said the native of Westphalia, who competes for SCC Berlin.

After injuries and problems caused by the corona pandemic, Lückenkemper is now as fast as before in time for the World Cup and European Championship. Last year’s double champion Alexandra Burghardt decided not to start over the 100 meters after warming up. Burghardt won silver in the bobsleigh at the Winter Olympics in February.

Second was Rebekka Haase from Wetzlar in 11.20 seconds ahead of Yasmin Kwadwo in 11.44 seconds. Defending champion Alexandra Burghardt – silver medalist in bobsleigh at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing – had decided not to start. Former champion Tatjana Pinto did not compete in the final.

Owen Ansah from Hamburger SV stormed to the men’s title for the first time in 10.09 seconds. Last year, Ansah had prevailed over 200 meters. Julian Wagner came second in 10.12 seconds ahead of Lucas Ansah-Peprah, also running for HSV, who needed 10.17 seconds. Former champion Kevin Kranz finished fourth in 10.21 seconds, just missing the medals.
