The Champions League winner prevailed in the Moroccan capital Rabat on Saturday evening in the final 5: 3 (2: 1) against the Asian representative Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia. Rio world champion Toni Kroos celebrated the 30th title of his career.
Vinicius Junior (13th/69th), Federico Valverde (18th/58th) and star striker Karim Benzema (54th) scored for the Spanish record champions. Moussa Marega (26th) and Luciano Vietto (63rd/79th) were successful for Al-Hilal. Kroos, who won the Club World Cup for the sixth time, and national player Antonio Rüdiger were in the starting line-up for the royal team.
The European participants have been winning the Club World Cup for years. Eleven years ago, a team that did not come from Europe celebrated the final victory. Back then, Corinthians Sao Paulo beat Chelsea 1-0. Chelsea won the title last year.
Flamengo Rio de Janeiro had previously secured third place 4-2 (1-1) against Al Ahly from Egypt. Gabriel Barbosa (11th, penalty kick/84th, hand penalty) and Pedro (77th/90th 1) scored for the Brazilians. Ahmed Abdelkader (37th/60th) was successful for Al Ahly. In the 69th minute, Al Ahlys saw Khalid Abdullfatah red for a foul game.
