Brooks Koepka’s Rules Discussion at LIV Golf Houston 2024
It was a challenging start for Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC at the LIV Golf Houston event, as they ended the first day 11 strokes behind the lead at the Golf Club of Houston. However, there was an intriguing moment during the game when the five-time major champion hit the ball into the water on the par-5 fourth hole.
Uncertain about where the ball had crossed and entered the water, Koepka sought advice from his playing partner, who happened to be Patrick Reed. Reed, known for previous rules incidents, had his own share of controversies in the past, including incidents at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
After some discussion, Koepka and Reed reached an agreement on where to drop the ball, with Koepka eventually placing it on the edge of the bank after it rolled back into the hazard twice. Despite the setback, Koepka finished the opening round at 2 under, trailing leaders Calen Surratt, Martin Kaymer, and Adrian Meronk by five strokes.
The second round of the tournament is set to start on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
