The Tigers (2-2) lost in double overtime to North Carolina State on Saturday. They also dropped 16 places from No. Regions Bank presents the AP Top 25.

Clemson’s streak of top-10 finishes was tied with Alabama’s for longest run in college football. It also ranks second in the history AP poll’s history, after Miami’s 137 in 1985-93.

The Crimson Tide was No. 1. With 58 first-place votes from 62. No. 2 Georgia was awarded the four remaining first-place votes. Oregon stayed No. 3. Penn State moved up 2 spots to No. 4, Iowa remained at No. 5, Iowa held the No. 6.

Cincinnati moved up one spot to No. 7 and Arkansas moved up eight places to No. 8 after beat Texas A&M. The Razorbacks are at their highest ranking since they were No. 8 in the 2012 season.

Arkansas lost the second game of that season to Louisiana-Monroe. It was not ranked again. Bobby Petrino had placed the Razorbacks fifth in the previous season.

POLL POINTS

Clemson managed to extend its streak to 107 weeks, which is the third-longest active streak after Alabama (218), and Ohio State (150).

The Buckeyes’ streak doesn’t include polls that they were not eligible for during the 2020 season, as the Big Ten wasn’t planning to play because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alabama’s current streak in poll appearances is second to Nebraska’s 348 between 1981 and 2002.

Six ranked teams lost this weekend to unranked opposition. Four teams were also eliminated. Four new teams have entered the rankings for the first time in this season’s history.

— No. 19 Oklahoma State beat Kansas State to improve its record to 4-0. Last season, the Cowboys were ranked.

— No. 21 Baylor is now 4-0 following defeat at home to Iowa State and is ranked for only the second time since the 2019 final poll.

— No. 23 North Carolina State (3-1), snapped an eight-game losing streak versus Clemson to climb into the ranking. The Wolfpack briefly ranked at No. 23 in the last season.

— No. 24 Wake Forest is now 4-0, the first time it has been since 2019, when the Demon Deacons were ranked in total for five weeks, with a peak at No. 19. This is the only season Wake has ranked since 2008.

OUT

Two teams that were in the top 10 at the start of the season are no longer ranked.

— Iowa State started No. 7 is now ranked 2-2, its highest ranking school history. It finished ninth in 2020.

North Carolina was No. 10 to begin the season. However, North Carolina fell out after being beaten by Georgia Tech. The final score was 2-2.

Wisconsin started the season at No. 12 but lost to Penn State and Notre Dame, Wisconsin fell to 1-2.

Kansas State was ranked for one week and then dropped out.

CONFERENCE CALL

Four teams from the Southeastern Conference are in the top 10, and five out of 12, in the top 12, including Mississippi, at No. 12.

Since the end of the 2011 season, the Atlantic Coast Conference has had no teams in the top 20, for the first time. It was September 16, 1986 that there was no top-20 ACC team. This was before Miami and Florida State joined and the poll was expanded from 20 to 25.

No. 12 Mississippi at No. 1 Alabama First ranking matchup between Tide and Rebels since 2017.

No. 7 Cincinnati at No. 9 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish obliged them to the Bearcats. They need Notre Dame to be as good as possible if they are to get into the playoffs.
