24 hours after the return of the Copa del Rey semifinals was held at the Camp Nou, Barcelona’s Investigating Court 1 has received a request from Real Madrid to appear as a private prosecution in the so-called ‘Negreira case’ that is investigating the payments of Barça to the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), José María Enríquez Negreira to presumably “favor Barcelona in the decision-making of the referees in the matches that the club played and thus in the results of the competitions”, as Consider the Prosecutor’s Office.
In a brief letter, Real Madrid considers that the Criminal Code “protects cleanliness in sports competitions and the social interest and that of its own participants in safeguarding sports integrity, an interest in which ethical values ??come together and which in turn has implications economic”. “Real Madrid C.F., as is well known, participates in the National League Championship, so that the actions that are the subject of this case, tending to favor FC Barcelona, ??one of the main competitors of our represented company, in taking decisions of the referees and, in this way, in the results of the competition, undoubtedly harmed him.”, indicates the document to which this medium had access.
For this reason, Real Madrid’s lawyers recall that in the ‘Osasuna case’, LaLiga de Fútbol appeared as a private prosecution for the crime of sports corruption and they consider that the “interest” of the white club is “in cleaning up the sports competition in the one that participates” since it is “just as indisputable”. That is why they ask to appear as a private prosecution since they consider themselves “offended or harmed entity”
The court has notified the Prosecutor’s Office and the rest of the parties to express their opinion on this request before making a decision. He also did the same with the request of a Real Madrid partner, Luis José Sáen de Tejada Vallejo. who also asks to appear as a private or popular accusation against Barça and Enríquez Negreira in this case.
He points out that he has been a member for 40 years, so “he has been directly harmed by the events under investigation” and that Real Madrid is one of the teams “harmed” by the crime of corruption in sport.
