The Jets announced Tuesday that they have informed future Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis of his release.

It was strictly a football decision, and not at all related to Revis’ recent felony assault arrest, a league source told NJ Advance Media. The Jets also won’t try to recoup Revis’ $6 million guaranteed salary for 2017, the source said.

Shortly after the Jets’ announcement, Revis bid farewell to the organization that drafted him in 2007. All told, Revis spent eight seasons with the Jets — 2007-12 and 2015-16.
