Dick Fosbury, the American athlete who gave his name to the high jump technique, is dead

American athlete Dick Fosbury, Olympic champion in 1968, who revolutionized the high jump with a technique that became a school and now bears his name, died Sunday March 12 at the age of 76, announced his agent Monday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that longtime friend and client Dick Fosbury passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning after a brief recurrence of lymphoma,” Ray Schulte wrote on Instagram.
