The next women’s football world champion will be crowned Down Under, the world Cup will be held in three years for the first time in Australia and new Zealand. This decision met with the members of the Council of the world football Association (Fifa), at its meeting this Thursday. The joint application of both countries received significantly more votes (22) than that of the single competitors Colombia (13).

“I would like to thank both candidates for their remarkable work, everything was really very well prepared. Congratulations to both of you,“ said the President of Fifa, Gianni Infantino, after he and his colleagues with their vote, the first women’s world Cup finals were in the southern hemisphere. The previous world Championships were held in China and the United States (twice) as well as Sweden, Germany, Canada and, most recently, France.

“I am delighted that the world Cup 2023 will be held in new Zealand and Australia. Just Australia but also new Zealand are one of the leading Nations in women’s football,” said the national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg: “Exciting is that there will be a Premiere: a women’s world Cup in two countries, this has never happened before.”

surprisingly, the decision is not. Already in the 228-page evaluation report of the Fifa, the lights of the Strengths and weaknesses of both candidates, had convinced the Australian-new Zealand application rather.
