The facts date back to early July on the Côte d’Azur. The Nice prosecutor’s office announced Friday the indictment of the French striker of AS Monaco (Ligue 1) Wissam Ben Yedder for “rape, attempted rape and sexual assault”.
Judicial information has been opened against the 32-year-old international (19 selections), placed under judicial supervision and who had to “pay a deposit of 900,000 euros”, specified to AFP the Nice prosecutor’s office, confirming initial information from the regional daily Nice-Matin.
The younger brother of Wissam Ben Yedder, also prosecuted in this case, was also charged with the same charges. The Nice judicial police are in charge of the investigation.
According to a source close to the case, the alleged victims are two young adult women of French nationality who are not from the Nice region.
The facts allegedly took place on July 10 during an evening spent in the town of Beausoleil (Alpes-Maritimes), which adjoins Monaco, during which the Ben Yedder brothers allegedly “imposed sexual acts on them”, according to France Info.
Ben Yedder, who turns 33 on Saturday, made his professional football debut in Toulouse before joining Spanish club Sevilla FC in 2016, where he confirmed his potential. Back in France in 2019, under the colors of AS Monaco, he has 19 selections for the France team, for which he scored three goals. His last selection with the Blues dates back to June 2022.
Last April, he was sentenced by the court of Seville (southern Spain) to a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 133,798.70 euros for tax evasion.
Wissam Ben Yedder was present Friday at AS Monaco training, at the performance center of La Turbie, noted an AFP journalist. The Principality club travels to Clermont on Sunday, as part of the first day of the Ligue 1 season.
