The people stunned Paulo Sousa’s staff on 24 minutes when captain Aron Gunnarsson’s signature from a corner-kick place Albert Gudmundsson facing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Gudmnundsson beat Szczesny using a rear movie and VAR overruled the linesman, who maintained the Iceland genius was offside.
However, Poland hit back at the 34th minute when a dazzling run from Robert Lewandowski set a one-two between Tymoteusz Puchacz and Piotr Zielinski, who overcome Runar Runarsson using a neat conclusion.
Iceland regained the lead two minutes into the second half when Gudmundur Thorarinsson’s fine cross from the left found Brynjar Bjarnason within Poland’s box.
Bjarnason got a great touch, turned across Grzegorz Krychowiak and delivered a strong shot Szczesny’s top right corner.
Sousa’s guys pushed for an equaliser and got it 2 minutes before fulltime when Kacper Kozlowski discovered Karol Swiderski unmarked in the box along with the PAOK ace conquer Ogmundur Kristinsson using a nice finish
