When Pau Gasol signed with the Spurs over the summer, he was not worried about forming strong bonds with his teammates.

After all, Gasol was able to engender respect from Kobe Bryant, one of the toughest players in the league to win over.

Bryant, a five-time NBA champion and 18-time All-Star with the Los Angeles Lakers, notoriously preferred to hangout alone on the road, and was known for alienating his teammates.

But Bryant and Gasol always had a strong bond.

“I don’t know if it’s just timing, personalities, appreciation and a mutual respect on and off the floor,” Gasol said. “Those things contributed to our friendship to be the way it is and the way it has been.”
