Here comes Gigi! Gianluigi Buffon has decided to hang up the Football cleats and the goalkeeper gloves. The former Italian international, trained in Parma, and who spent 20 years of his life in the cages of Juventus Turin, has decided to end his career at the age of 45. He announced it himself on Wednesday August 2 on his social networks. “It’s over, friends! You gave me everything, I gave you everything. We did it together,” wrote “Gigi” Buffon, considered one of the best goalkeepers in history, alongside a video recounting his career.

Buffon, returned two years ago to Parma, the club of his debut now in the 2nd Italian division, is the player who has played the most matches in the Italian Championship (657).

With Parma (1995-2001 and 2021-2023), he won the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) in 1999. With Juventus (2001-2018 and 2019-2021), he flew over Serie A with ten league titles, while failing to conquer the Champions League, losing in the final three times in 2003, 2015, and 2017. He also won the Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, during a spell of a season marked by an early elimination in C1, before returning to Juve.

But his greatest feat of arms will remain the victory of Italy at the 2006 World Cup, under the orders of Marcello Lippi.
