Hope Solo pleads guilty to driving under the influence in late March. A court has now imposed a prison sentence. The former star goalkeeper has to be in prison for 30 days, the further sentence is suspended on probation. The 40-year-old apologizes.

Former US women’s soccer team star goaltender Hope Solo has been jailed for 30 days for drink driving. In addition, a court in the US state of North Carolina imposed a 24-month suspended sentence, as the AP news agency quoted from a statement from the prosecutor’s office. The 40-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at the end of March. A police patrol found her passed out in her car in a parking lot in the large city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with the engine running and her two-year-old twins sitting in the back seat.

According to the newspaper “Winston-Salem Journal”, the ex-goalkeeper gave up her driver’s license and apologized to her family and fans. She made a “big mistake,” Solo wrote in a post on Instagram. “I underestimated what a destructive part of my life alcohol had become.”

The blood test after the March incident showed that Solo had three times the legal alcohol content in his blood. In addition, the corona pandemic brought problems for her family with two small children, she wrote in her post. The three-time Olympic and 2015 World Champion has played more than 200 times for the US national team. She has been married to former professional footballer Jerramy Stevens since 2012.

The court imposed other conditions, including one for addiction treatment. Solo also has to pay a $2,500 fine and $600 for all lab tests. Some of the original allegations against her, such as resisting an officer and abusing children, have been dropped, the newspaper quoted her lawyer as saying.
