After the season finale in Abu Dhabi, the TV Director of the formula 1 is again in the criticism. That crucial Overtaking maneuvers have not been shown in the last round, is Sergio Perez mad. For him, the TV Directors to make “no good work,” he says. Carlos Sainz had complained in the past that he was too little in the picture.
Ironically, these two drivers, it was also in Abu Dhabi again. Perez overtook Lando Norris in the last round, so he was able to intercept the British in the battle for tenth place in the overall standings. Also, Sainz began to make the decisive move in the last round, and snatched so still rank six from Pierre Gasly.
Both scenes were not shown, however, because race winner Lewis Hamilton drove his last lap. For Perez, the fight in the midfield is much more spectacular than at the top. “It is fantastic. The Problem is not that they show it in TV,” he says. “The TV Directors do a good job.” It was exactly something he wanted to see as a Fan would.
Similarly, Sainz, but not surprised: “I’ve been disappointed in the past,” he is dismissive. “I’m not going to say much, but all of them talked all weekend long about the battle for sixth place – and then it goes to the last round. It was one of the last curves, and yet you don’t show it in the TV”, he is annoyed.
“This is of course very strange that all of this struggle to place six of the hypen, it shows at the end but no one in the TV,” asks the Pilot of McLaren.
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner may agree with this view. He would wish that the TV Director would note the midfield stronger. “At the top, not much happens anyway, and you have to show the audience the overall picture,” he says. “It would be nice if they would show more from our perspective.”
