Post 11 was unable to win a few one-run games in the eight-team tournament that included Utica Greenville, Meigs and Chillicothe.
Tiffin beat Greenville 12-4 to win the Classic title at Beavers Field on Sunday. Gunther Kissell, Tiffin’s tournament Most Valuable player was awarded the title.
Tiffin was forced to defeat Troy 9-5 in its tournament opener. Then, it won four straight games to claim the title. Tiffin beat Chillicothe by 10-4, Pemberville by 3-0, and Utica by 4-0 before taking home the title against Greenville.
Post 11 appeared to be in control of its first tournament game on Thursday. It took a 5-0 lead over Meigs and scored one run in the first, three runs in third, and more in fifth innings. Meigs came back with four runs in the sixth and two more in seventh before Meigs scored four runs in the seventh. Post 11 held the tiebreaking run in scoring position in seventh, but did not score.
Lane Goetz was the leader of Post 11, going 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and scoring a run. Samuel Sethna was 2-for-3 while Ethan Hyme went 2-for-3 with a double. Nathan Hoffman was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Post 11’s pitchers were Dylan Winkler and Chris Silcott. Winkler pitched five innings and gave up six hits, four earned runs, and struck out six.
Lancaster’s game against Utica on Thursday night was canceled because of rain.
Post 11 lost 4-3 to Greenville on Friday. Greenville scored three runs in third inning and then scored what would prove to be the winning run for Post 11. Post 11 scored one run in the fifth, one each in the sixth and one seventh innings.
Post 11 had just three hits. Noah Stadwick was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, and scored a run. Goetz also had a hit.
Post 11 fell 6-5 to Pemberville on Sunday.
Post 11 will continue with its regular season, before getting ready for the District tournament which will start July 18 at Beavers Field. Beavers Field will host the American Legion State tournament, which is set for July 27.
