Jason Heyward will get plenty of early work Saturday as the Chicago Cubs open exhibition play against Oakland in a split-squad game at Sloan Park.
Heyward, who retooled his swing in the offseason after batting .230 in 2016, will bat leadoff. The Cubs’ lineup Betkanyon against the A’s features starters Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist, Addison Russell, Willson Contreras and Jon Jay.
Kyle Schwarber will bat leadoff and start in left field in the other split-squad game against San Francisco at Scottsdale Stadium. Second baseman Javier Baez, catcher Miguel Montero and center fielder Albert Almora Jr. are scheduled to start against the Giants.
Mike Montgomery will face the A’s, while fellow left-hander Rob Zastryzny will oppose the Giants.
