Bob Miller, the Kings’ Hall of Fame announcer, will make what the team called “a major announcement” about his future Thursday at Staples Center. Miller hasn’t worked since suffering a mild stroke during the NHL’s All-Star Weekend last month, after taking on a limited schedule after bypass surgery last year.
“I have received a lot of inquires about my health situation and I appreciate the concern,” the 78-year-old Miller said in a statement released by the team Tuesday. “I think it’s time to bring everyone up to date on my progress and what’s ahead in my future.”
Miller has been resting at his West Hills home since being released from the hospital after staying for several days after seeking treatment Jan. 28. He was working on Fox Sports West’s outdoor set in front of Staples Center when his wife, Judy, noticed the right side of his face wasn’t working well.
He was taken from the arena by ambulance to County USC Medical Center and then later transferred to the USC Keck Medical Facility, where a stent was inserted and a procedure to clean up plaque buildup in a carotid artery was performed.
Ralph Strangis has filled in for Miller, joining analyst Jim Fox on Kings telecasts.
