Leigh Centurions are gearing up for a crucial play-off match against Salford Red Devils, with coach Adrian Lam expressing confidence in his team’s ability to make history on the field. Despite being snubbed in the Dream Team selections, Lam believes that his players are motivated to secure a spot in the top flight semis for the first time.

Dream Team Snub Disappointment

Last year, five Leigh stars were recognized in the end-of-season super side, but this year none of them made the cut. Despite feeling that several of his players were deserving of inclusion, Lam remains focused on the task at hand. He expressed disappointment in the omission of players like Kai O’Donnell, who he believes has been the best player in the competition, along with Tom Amone and Robbie Mulhern.

Reflecting on the Dream Team selections, Lam stated, “I would never question players who did make it and have performed all year, but I was disappointed. So, we are sad but don’t want to dwell on it too much. It’s people’s opinions, and we had a good run with it last year.”

Previous Encounters with Salford

Leigh had a convincing 26-0 victory over Salford at Leigh Sports Village last month, but the Red Devils emerged victorious with a 32-22 win at the AJ Bell Stadium in March. Lam remains focused on the process and believes that his squad is motivated by their own beliefs and goals rather than external factors like Dream Team snubs.

Regarding the upcoming match against Salford, Lam stated, “We are focused on the process, and the players are engaged and believe in who we are and what we are about. That is enough motivation for us.”

Salford’s Strategy and Favorites Tag

Salford opted to rest key players, including Dream Teamer Marc Sneyd, in their recent match against Wigan, which allowed Wigan to secure the League Leaders’ Shield. Lam acknowledged this strategy, stating, “As a club, they made the decision that was the best way forward for them. It’s probably something I wouldn’t do, but I can’t question that. But we have just focused on ourselves and I am not bothered what Salford are planning to do.”

Despite Salford finishing higher in the standings and having a home fixture, Lam believes that they will start as favorites in the upcoming match. He acknowledged Salford’s strong home record and their confidence in their abilities but emphasized that the game is expected to be closely contested.

Team Changes and Departures

Lam is unlikely to make significant changes to the team that secured fifth spot by defeating St Helens. The match also confirmed the departure of several Leigh players at the end of the season, including John Asiata, Zak Hardaker, Oliver Holmes, Tom Amone, Kai O’Donnell, Ricky Leutele, Jacob Jones, Jacob Gannon, Tom Nisbet, and Lewis Baxter.

Women’s Team Success and Future Prospects

Leigh Centurions’ women’s team has been a source of inspiration, winning the Northern Championship Grand Final against Sheffield Eagles. The team is set to face Southern winners London Broncos in the next round, with the opportunity to secure a place in the elite league next year. Unfortunately, Keli Morris suffered a season-ending injury during the final.

Leigh Centurions are confident of securing a grade A accreditation for the next season after submitting a final score of 15.24 to Super League and the RFL’s strategic partners, IMG. This accreditation will further solidify the team’s position in the league and pave the way for future success on and off the field.
