Ligue 1 is once again the victim of extra-sporting events in its stands. Sunday October 8, the meeting between Clermont and Montpellier which took place at the Stade de la Mosson, in Hérault, was interrupted during added time of the second half, due to a firecracker thrown on the pitch. He fell very close to Auvergne goalkeeper Mory Diaw, visibly hitting him in the face.
Stunned, the Senegalese was evacuated on a stretcher while the match was suspended. The other players returned to the locker room awaiting a final decision which did not take long. “The doctor who examined the Clermont goalkeeper found that he was not able to resume the match. As a result, the match was definitively interrupted,” the match referee, Florent Batta, declared to the press 45 minutes after the provisional suspension.
According to Agence France Presse, the firecracker started from the Etang de Thau stand, which welcomes Montpellier supporters. When the match was stopped, Montpellier led 4 to 2 thanks in particular to doubles from Téji Savanier and Musa Tamari.
