Lotito’s Bold Move: Marco Baroni Officially Named as Lazio’s New Coach
Lazio President Claudio Lotito has officially confirmed the appointment of Marco Baroni as the club’s new coach, amidst fan backlash and chaos within the team in recent months.
The decision to bring Baroni on board comes after a tumultuous period for Lazio, with Maurizio Sarri abruptly resigning in March and Igor Tudor stepping in briefly before also parting ways due to disagreements with the directors over transfer strategy.
Baroni, who most recently guided Hellas Verona to Serie A safety, was chosen for his coaching prowess and suitability for the club. Lotito defended his choice, stating, “We wanted him because he is a good coach and we think he is the right profile for us.”
However, not all Lazio fans are pleased with the appointment, as ultras have organized a protest against both Baroni and Lotito’s management of the club. In response, Lotito fired back, highlighting his successful track record of hiring coaches and pointing out the support Baroni has received from other football figures.
Prior to accepting the Lazio job, Baroni had been in discussions with Monza and Cagliari. He is expected to sign a two-year contract with an annual salary of approximately €1.5 million, along with additional bonuses.
Despite the controversy surrounding Baroni’s appointment, Lotito remains confident in his choice and is determined to guide Lazio towards a successful future under the new coach.
