The payroll of French clubs has increased overall this season, according to the ranking of the highest salaries in Ligue 1 revealed by our colleagues from L’Équipe. Some clubs have also invested much more than others for this 2022-2023 season. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain is by far at the top of this ranking thanks to the astronomical salaries of its stars, in particular the Mbappé-Neymar-Messi trio. Olympique de Marseille is not left out with eight players in the top 30.
The rest of the ranking is shared globally between AS Monaco, Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais. The Monegasques were still forced to reduce their payroll, because of financial fair play, just like Lille who saw their two highest salaries, Sanches and Yilmaz, leave last summer. On the side of OM, the European ambitions of the Marseille club have greatly increased its number of big salaries. Eight Marseille players are in the top 30: Sanchez, Veretout, Bailly and Mbemba.
