So far, so good for the Mets reduced throwing program at spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The starting pitchers throw bullpen sessions every other day and throw to live batters even more infrequently.
That includes Matt Harvey, who is recovering from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.
“We aren’t sure how many guys have bounced back from that injury that he had to be what they were before,” manager Terry Collins said. “But I know one thing about Matt Harvey: If anybody can do that, Matt Harvey could be one of the guys to regain that dominance.”
After a going a career-worst 4-10 with a 4.86 ERA in 2016, Harvey is ready to put it all behind him.
“I knew something was wrong,” Harvey said. “To throw a baseball is the easiest thing in the world for me. So to go through a process like that, of really not having an idea of why it’s so difficult to throw, it became pretty tough. It was a tough process and I am happy to be back at spring training healthy.”
