Washington: Know your foe
The opening five minutes of Washington’s 2021 football season were spectacular. The Huskies took the kickoff from Montana and ran 78 yards in nine plays. The Huskies then punched the ball into the endzone on a 1-yard run made by quarterback Dylan Morris. Everything collapsed. After a 13-7 defeat to the Grizzlies, the Huskies were completely embarrassed and their season was in danger. Morris threw three interceptions against Montana, which was the same number as he did last year in just four games. The Huskies could not throw the ball (a terrible 4.9 yards per attempt), and couldn’t run it (26 carries for 53 yard as a team), and couldn’t convert on the third down (4 out of 14). They must right the ship quickly.
Cornerback Trent McDuffie is the player to watch in Washington. He is a top-ranked NFL prospect and is regarded as one of the most talented defensive backs in America. McDuffie joins a long list of cornerbacks and safeties who were drafted early in the draft. As the next member of “Defensive Back University”, McDuffie will join CB Byron Murphy (second-round, 2019); S Taylor Rap (second-round, 2019); S Budda Baker (2nd round, 2017); and CB Sidney Jones (2nd round), 2017). McDuffie was able to catch a pass for 14 yards against Montana, and he also had two pass breaksups.
