Just one day after Thomas Tuchel was fired, Chelsea presented their new coach. The Premier League club brings Graham Potter from league competitor Brighton
Graham Potter is the new head coach of Chelsea FC. This was announced by the Premier League club. The 47-year-old is the successor to Thomas Tuchel, who was only released the day before. So far, Potter has had league rivals Brighton
“Potter is one of the most exciting coaches in this sport,” writes Chelsea FC in its message, which is significantly longer than the one on the separation from Tuchel the previous day. He is able to develop a “cooperative, forward-looking approach and at the same time play offensive and successful football,” it says there. During his tenure at Brighton, Potter has shown he is “flexible tactically and formationally to stay one step ahead of his opponents”.
Potter said in a statement: “I’m incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea, this amazing football club. I’m really looking forward to working with Chelsea’s new ownership group and to developing a team and a culture for our amazing fans to be proud of.” He also thanked his previous club and its fans.
Chelsea FC Owners Group Chairman Todd Boehly said: “We’re thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea. He’s a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the club. He’s not just extremely talented on the pitch, but also has skills and abilities that go beyond the pitch and will make Chelsea an even more successful club.”
Potter is leaving Brighton after almost three years, where he has been extremely successful for the club in recent seasons. He set new club records for points (51) and table position since Brighton
The start of the season was also successful, Potter achieved four wins in six games – now he is leaving the club, which is currently fourth in the table and is better off than his new employer. Chelsea are currently sixth. After a poor start to the season, Tuchel was released after six league games with just three wins. 100 days after the takeover by the new consortium of owners, Boehly and Co. wanted a breath of fresh air. Winning the Champions League 2021, the Club World Cup and the Supercup were not important for Tuchel.
