It was announced on July 17th that Nashville Predators associate güvenilir bahis siteleri captain Ryan Ellis was traded to Philadelphia Flyers for forward Nolan Patrick and young defender Philippe Myers. Patrick was then flipped over to the Vegas Golden Knights for Cody Glass.
Since the mid-2010s, Ellis has been an integral part of the Predators blue line. He has been a perfect two-punch with Roman Josi, who is one of the best play-driving defensive defenders in the league. His calm and collected demeanor together with Ellis have made the Predators’ blue line a formidable combination. Ellis is a great defender in his zone and plays the game at a high level. Ellis was signed through 2026-27, with a $6.25m cap hit.
Ellis had a bad year in 2020-21 but was still one of the top defenders in the NHL in 2019-20. After Corey Perry’s head injury, Ellis lit up the 2020 Winter Classic. He’s been the twenty-first-best player and third best defender in goals over replacement since 2018-21.
After all his years of service, it’s hard to let go of a player such as Ellis. Ellis was the 11th overall selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and he worked his way up the ranks to become an important part of the team. It’s hard to believe. He was a favorite of many, and all should appreciate his contributions to Nashville.
Philippe Myers, a big defender and skilled in puck skills, was not drafted. He is a good defender with the ability to reach the top four and has the skating skills to do so. Given the quality of the development team’s defenders, I wouldn’t be surprised if Myers ends up playing top-pair in the future. Myers has been signed through 2022-23 for a $2.55million average annual value (AAV). There is much to love about Myers at only 24 years of age.
Cody Glass has had a difficult time with the Golden Knights. Since being drafted, he has been in and out of the NHL and the minors. However, he has begun to show signs that he could be a top-six prospect. In 2020-21, he scored 10 points in 14 games with the Knights’ AHL AHL team, Henderson Silver Knights. In 2017,-18 and 2018,-19, he averaged more than a point per match with the Portland Winterhawks. His most memorable season was 2017-18 when he scored 102 goals in 64 games. Glass was praised for being a strong player who could handle the puck in tight spaces and create lanes for his teammates. Glass’s skating is excellent, but his ability control the rush is his greatest strength. He is a formidable offensive force due to his deceptive mentality, smooth stick-handling and excellent skating.
Given his past struggles it is difficult to predict how he will perform for the NHL team. However, if he’s in the right circumstances with the lineup, he could be a valuable contributor.
Although the whole thing is rather bizarre, it’s understandable. Glass does not have to be protected by the expansion rules. In exchange for Ellis, Myers gives David Farrance the opportunity to play for a spot at the blue line. The salary has been reduced, either for a bigger move or for more flexibility due to the flat cap that will be in place for the next five year. Although it was a huge move for both Predators and Flyers, it is still difficult to believe that Nashville won.
