Sergio Rico, substitute goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has been hospitalized following a riding accident in Andalusia, southern Spain, the football club announced on Sunday May 28. “He is in serious condition,” said one of the PSG spokespersons, without going into detail on the circumstances of the tragedy.
Sergio Rico was airlifted to Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville, where he was put on life support, according to local TV channel Canal Sur. He would suffer from a traumatic brain injury.
The Spanish international (selected once in the national team) was on the bench, Saturday evening, in Strasbourg, during the match which crowned PSG champion of France, for the eleventh time in its history. Arriving in the capital in 2019 from Sevilla FC, the 29-year-old played twenty-four games with the club.
