Kylian Mbappé is in a hurry against the EX champion OSC Lille: The superstar puts Paris Saint-Germain in the lead in record time. In the end there is a smashing victory and a bit of rest in what are sometimes agitated days.
French soccer world champion Kylian Mbappé has once again caused a stir in Ligue 1, beating the record for the league’s fastest goal. The 23-year-old scored for Paris Saint-Germain after just over eight seconds to put them 1-0 ahead at OSC Lille. Mbappé lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Léo Jardim after a long pass from six-time world footballer Lionel Messi from the center circle. The Paris star ensemble finally won the game 7-1 (4-0). After goals from Messi (27th), Achraf Hakimi (38th) and Neymar (42nd and 51st), Mbappé (65th and 86th) also scored twice more.
According to Ligue 1 officials, Mbappé’s first goal was the fastest in France’s elite division since February 1992, when Michel Rio also scored after eight seconds for SM Caen against AS Cannes.
With the special runaway victory, PSG brought a complicated week to a successful end. Things were said to have been smoking hot between superstars Mbappé and Neymar during the week – although Christophe Galtier was quick to snuff out rumors of alleged deeper disputes between the two world-class players. The behavior was an “accompaniment” and was not a symptom of a deeper problem.
Neymar had insisted on taking the second penalty himself in last Saturday’s league game against Montpellier HSC (5-2) after Mbappe missed the first penalty. Neymar converted the penalty but French world champion Mbappe didn’t celebrate the goal.
“We met quickly the next day to iron everything out and to say what we had to say,” said Galtier at the press conference before the league game at OSC Lille on Sunday (8:45 p.m. / DAZN): “We had a very pleasant working week. Everyone did a good job. I enjoyed all the sessions this week and this side effect disappeared very quickly, the day after our session.”
