The Philadelphia 76ers on Monday officially completed a buyout of center Andrew Bogut.
Bogut, who was dealt from Dallas at the trade deadline, is expected to meet with representatives from the Spurs, Cavaliers, Rockets and Celtics before deciding where to sign.
ESPN on Sunday named Cleveland as the prohibitive favorite to sign the former No. 1 overall pick.
Currently in his 12th NBA season, Bogut is averaging a career-low three points to go along with 8.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and one block. He appeared in 26 games with Dallas while battling various maladies, but can still be an effective, formidable defensive presence when healthy.
Bogut won a title as Golden State’s starting center in 2015. He was also named to the All-Defensive second team for the first time that season.
Bogut will be free to sign on Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET when he clears waivers. It could be the second signing of the week for Cavaliers general manager David Griffin.
The Cavaliers on Monday scooped up point guard Deron Williams from the buyout market in an attempt to appease star LeBron James, who has called on Griffin to add playmakers ahead of the playoffs.
Though the Spurs will likely lose out on Bogut, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said the team will remain vigilant as more names become available on the buyout market.
“We all pay attention to it, I’ll say that,” Popovich said. “It’s a real entity, and in some cases I think it can really help a team.”
