The US company Neocis is presenting a robot at the Consumer Electronics Show that could also be found in many German dental practices in the future. Because Yomi is a system that supports dentists in the planning and operation of dental implants. The use of the robot, which has already been approved in the USA, saves a lot of time and enables more precise and therefore gentler procedures for patients.
Strictly speaking, Yomi is a computerized robotic navigation system. It consists of a robotic arm with instruments that does not work independently, but is guided by the dentist. A guide arm supports them and provides haptic feedback if they deviate from the plan previously created with the help of the system. According to Neocis, dental implants can be used far more precisely than usual.
According to the manufacturer, the robotic assistance can shorten treatments that could otherwise take months to one day. Due to the high precision, operations should also be possible with smaller incisions and without any seams. All in all, Yomi should not only make the work of dentists easier, but also make the procedure less painful for patients and lead to faster recovery.
