Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is preparing for the launch of its next device, the OnePlus 5, but it hasn’t stopped rolling out operating system updates for its existing line-up of devices.
On Monday, the company rolled out the Android 7.1.1 HydrogenOS Beta Version 9 for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. Although HydrogenOS is a Chinese ROM, global users can flash it to their devices.
It is peculiar that the company is rolling out Android Nougat OS updates over HydrogenOS rather than the more popular OxygenOS, which is apparently preferred even by Chinese users.
“Well, though I am a Chinese, I prefer to the oxygen OS, and I’d remain at 7.0, waiting for the oxygen updated to 7.1.1,” a user named Kan-Su posted Monday on OnePlus’ forum.
The update comes with a March security patch. According to Phone Arena, some users have claimed that it significantly cuts lags when the device is switched on. In addition, it also brings gallery improvements and new editing options.
The build size is 1.32GB, so you will need to make sure that you have the required storage space before you download the update. You can download it using this link from the company’s website.
In case you don’t want to go through the inconvenience of downloading the HydrogenOS update, but still want your phone to get a taste of Android 7.1.1, you can expect a similar update for OxygenOS to roll out soon.
OnePlus had previously rolled out the OxygenOS 4.0.1 and OxygenOS 4.0.2 updates for global users.
The company seems ahead of the competition in terms of software updates as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge haven’t received the update yet. Android 7.1.1 update was released by Google in December for Pixel devices.
