Few things are heavier than a man from Madrid and his eagerness to measure everything at Santiagos Bernabéus. It is true that sometimes it seems that there are no more cities in Spain, but Nintendo does not dedicate a circuit to all of them. This Friday and especially from August 23, the capital becomes the protagonist of the mobile game, both for Android and iOS, Mario Kart Tour with its next event ‘Summer Tour’.
This event will take players on an international tour of different cities around the world, starting on August 23 and extending until September 6 and one of them is Madrid. This time it is not a city or map inspired by, as happened in the case of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple, but Nintendo has tried to recreate the most characteristic areas and locations of the capital, as well as some of its customs. .
The news comes after images leaked in previous days hinted at the possibility of a circuit set in the Spanish capital. The official preview, shared on the Mario Kart Tour Twitter account, shows the iconic Nintendo characters, Mario and Luigi, touring the streets of Madrid in a circuit, called ‘Paseo por Madrid’.
A bit of a relaxing cup of coffee with milk in the Plaza Mayor, a greener Puerta del Sol than it currently looks (with the fountain and flower pots it had before the reform), Madrid de los Austrias, the El Retiro pond With its boats and everything, a tablao, terraces in the middle of the sidewalk, churros, French toast and even the anti-suicide protection of the Segovia Viaduct. They have nailed it, a city with its pluses and minuses.
This special “Summer Tour” event is not Madrid’s first foray into the world of video games. Last year, the popular social simulation game Animal Crossing: New Horizons allowed players to explore the Prado Museum virtually, immersing them in the gallery’s masterpieces.
The news has been well received by fans of the Mario Kart franchise and has generated palpable excitement on social media. Players eagerly await the opportunity to race through the streets of Madrid and experience the thrill of racing on a circuit inspired by the Spanish capital. Now all that remains is for them to include as a soundtrack some chotis and other gems that deal with the capital such as ‘You can count on me’ by La Oreja de Van Gogh or ‘Let’s say I’m talking about Madrid’ by Los Porretas.
The bad news is that this circuit will only be available for two weeks, until September 6, since ‘Summer Tour’ is a temporary event that allows you to explore different cities competing in car races with Nintendo characters.
Before Madrid came Tokyo, New York, Paris, Vancouver, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Sydney, Amsterdam, Singapore, Athens, Rome and Bangkok. “The characters of Mario Kart Tour will travel at breakneck speeds through the streets of this city, visiting historic squares, leafy parks and emblematic monuments. Fans of the saga can already take a first look at this circuit in the trailer that has just been made public. , and that serves as an appetizer (or as a tapa, for that matter) for the season premiere,” the press release states.
With this curious addition to Mario Kart Tour, Nintendo continues to demonstrate its ability to combine fun and creativity in its popular racing game. Players from all over the world are eager to get behind the wheel and roam the streets of Madrid on this awesome new track.
