Cordless vacuum cleaners are a convenient alternative to the good old mop with a bucket. The new Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme is said to work particularly efficiently and thoroughly, ntv.de has tried out the high-tech mess.

If you have hard floors at home, you can’t avoid occasionally wiping them down properly or cleaning up a spilled mishap. You can do this the old-fashioned way with a mop and bucket, but a modern vacuum wiper or wet-dry cleaner is much more convenient. The only question is whether such a high-tech bastard does the job thoroughly or just spreads the dirt all over the floor? This is definitely not the case with the new Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme cordless vacuum cleaner, as ntv.de found out in the test.

Vacuum mop means that the device cleans hard floors with clean water and vacuums up the dirty water produced. At first glance, the device doesn’t look any different from a conventional cordless vacuum cleaner. The large dirty water tank on the front could also be a dust container, the fresh water tank is hidden inconspicuously on the back in the frame. The device only reveals itself through its brush roller when you look at the underside.

The scope of delivery includes a charging station with a power supply unit, two replacement brushes, a replacement dry filter, 0.5 liters of cleaning agent, a cleaning brush and of course the operating instructions. You can also install the Tineco app on your smartphone, but you don’t really need it except for possible firmware updates. Unless you want to see statistics on vacuum cleaning use.

Commissioning is uncomplicated. You place the 4.5 kg light suction wiper on its charging station until its battery is full, fill up the fresh water tank and as soon as it is put back in place, you can get started. Normally you add a capful of cleaning agent to the tap water, but the Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme also has a mode in which you can do without it for light soiling.

Basically, the device starts in automatic mode, in which the device automatically regulates the suction power and water consumption depending on the degree of soiling. You can also set maximum power manually, but in the test this turned out to be superfluous, the automatic does the job perfectly.

You can tell how hard the suction wiper is by looking at a ring of light that changes from blue to red on a round display on the motor housing. It looks nice, but the battery indicator is more important. Because when the battery is exhausted, you have fiddled with it first because it cannot be changed. That’s a pity and at the same time the biggest criticism of the Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme.

Before the battery is empty, however, the dirty water tank is usually full and has to be emptied, although it still has a capacity of 0.8 litres. Occasionally you also have to refill the fresh water tank (0.7 liters). Both depend on the degree of contamination. If there’s a problem, tell one of the vacuum cleaners, who has mastered the relevant sentences in several languages ??- including German. You can also see warnings on the display.

The battery lasts around 30 minutes on average soiled floors. That means you can easily create at least 50 square meters. If the device is easy, there are 70 or more in it. Even with maximum performance, you don’t become a burden for the neighbors, the volume always stays below 80 decibels.

Working with the 4.5 kilogram light device does not make anyone sweat. As you are used to from vacuum cleaners, you can lean into curves with the rotatable brush head and the forward movement is practically done by the rotation.

Because the brush is connected to the drive on the right-hand side, edges can only be reached with the left-hand side. Tables can also cause problems, since the suction wiper cannot be tilted more flatly than 142 degrees.

Wherever it goes, the Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme cleans thoroughly. In the test, for example, he had to drive through a pool of oatmeal, milk, ketchup and mustard, from which nothing could be seen after a few seconds. The device also effortlessly swallows human or animal hair or small leaves. The suction wiper only has to fit objects larger than peas, for example he choked on popcorn. The device also does not particularly like butter and similar greasy substances.

A test with a damp, white kitchen towel showed that invisible dirt was largely removed even on darker floors. However, one should not expect that the vacuum wiper will make dried oatmeal mush or the like disappear without soaking. In such a case, even the best mop would fail. Important: The device leaves little moisture behind, the floor is quickly completely dry again.

When the work is done, you empty the dirty water tank and park the vacuum wiper in the charging station. He then determines for himself whether self-cleaning of the brush is appropriate and communicates this. This is relatively superfluous, as you should always do it after the device has been used so that the roll doesn’t start to smell bad.

The self-cleaning normally works very well, even after driving through the mixture of oatmeal, milk, ketchup and mustard, the brush was so clean afterwards that you only had to pull it off and place it in its holder at the charging station to dry. However, you may have to remove hair or a few tangled lints.

Of course, you can also wash the roll by hand to save on detergent, which costs around 20 euros per liter. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Tineco writes in the operating instructions that you should only use the branded cleaner, but there are alternatives. According to “Hausjournal”, this can even be dishwashing detergent, as long as you dose it so tightly that it doesn’t foam too much.

You always have to clean the other moving parts yourself, but that can be done quickly under the tap. One should not forget the dry filter, which mainly serves to prevent damage to the drive from particles sucked in.

All in all, the Tineco Floor One S5 Extreme is a good vacuum mop that impresses above all with its strong cleaning performance and simple and convenient operation. However, with a retail price of around 450 euros, it is not exactly a bargain. If you have neither children nor pets and only rarely have to wipe a few square meters, the good old mop is probably the more sensible choice.
