The derailment of a passenger train left one dead and “about thirty injured”, including nineteen seriously, on Tuesday April 4, in Voorschoten, in the south of the Netherlands, according to the emergency services. The train derailed at around 3:25 a.m. after hitting construction equipment on the track in the village on the northeast outskirts of The Hague, the source added.
“Eleven people were collected from local residents, while the seriously injured were taken to hospital,” the emergency services said on their website. “Specialists are at work securing the train,” they added. “The cause of the accident is under investigation. »
The accident happened on the railway line connecting the cities of Leiden and The Hague.
A freight train involved
According to the ANP news agency, the lead wagon derailed and crashed into a field. A fire broke out in at least one of the carriages at the rear of the train, she added, before it was subsequently contained.
