Several industrial-zoned properties in Unity Township will get a nine-year extension on tax breaks intended to encourage development after the Westmoreland County commissioners signed off on the deal Thursday.
The board unanimously approved renewing the tax exemptions for buildings and property improvements in areas including the Westmoreland Airpark and the Wimmerton Betticket Industrial Park. A previous tax break authorized under the state's Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance program recently expired, but the county wanted to keep it going, said Jason Rigone, executive director of the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation.
Both the township and the Greater Latrobe School District had approved the tax breaks, Rigone said.
