SAN ANTONIO — A 24-year-old woman lost feeling from her hips down on Friday morning after a car collision in a Southwest Side neighborhood, a witness said.
Authorities responded to the collision around 9:05 a.m. in the 5300 block of War Horse Drive, where they found a wrecked red sedan and a gold SUV.
Police said the collision was caused by a distracted driver, but they declined to say which driver was at fault.
The injured woman, Raquel Rivera, was transported to Southwest General Hospital after hurting her back in the wreck.

“She tried to get out of her car and collapsed,” Rivera’s sister, who was at the scene but declined to give her name, said.
She said her sister had a previous back injury, and that after the collision she couldn’t feel anything from her hips down. The sister also said she’s concerned because Rivera has also suffered previous facial fractures and she hit her face against the steering wheel in the collision.
Neighbors at the scene heard a loud bang and then walked outside.
Ted Gleason said people Betticket speed on War Horse Drive all the time, and that he’s not surprised there was a wreck.
“My biggest concern is people speeding all the damn time,” he said.

Gleason said drivers “fly like it’s a highway” on the street and do donuts in the cul de sac.
“We’ve been living here since ’79. We figured it was going to happen sooner or later,” Gleason’s wife said.
While responding to the collision on War Horse Drive, first responders appear to have inadvertently caused another accident at Old Pearsall Road and Five Palms Drive.
Police at the scene said a driver “got scared” and tried to avoid the fire engine headed his way, ran a red light and then collided with another vehicle.
No one was injured in the crash.
