Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – With the planned settlement of the US chip manufacturer Intel in Magdeburg, a further step towards the implementation of the billion dollar project has been taken. According to the state, a first round of advice on immission control was completed on Wednesday. Representatives of the group advised in Halle, among other things, with employees of the state administration office and the city of Magdeburg on topics such as nature conservation, soil protection and waste law, as a spokeswoman for the state administration office announced. “Precise application documents are the prerequisite for a speedy approval process,” said the President of the State Administration Office, Thomas Pleye.

Chips are to be produced in Magdeburg from 2027. In a first expansion stage, two semiconductor plants are to be built. Several thousand jobs could be created. Intel intends to invest around 17 billion euros for this initially. The groundbreaking could take place in the first half of 2023. The federal government has announced that it intends to support the manufacturer’s settlement with billions.
