Munich (dpa / lby) – According to the Bavarian Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, the current discussion about climate demonstrators is bypassing the actual problem. “I regret that the public discussion is now focused on the actions of a very few people and we are debating whether it’s okay to get stuck on highways or whether it makes sense to throw mush at a painting,” he said Monday at a press briefing on the World Council of Churches (WCC) called the World Council of Churches. “Let’s finally get back to the political discussions.”

He recognizes “cries of desperation” behind the controversial actions of the “last generation,” for example, he said. “I believe that it is important to make the urgency of the issue visible and clear wherever possible and by whatever means possible.”

According to the WCC, it represents more than 580 million believers worldwide, and Bedford-Strohm is the central committee chair. The longstanding council chairman of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) will remain bishop of Bavaria until October next year. A good six months earlier, on March 27, the state synod is to elect a successor.
