A 12-year-old from Scotland is dependent on oxygen because of severe paralysis. However, due to the energy crisis, the mother can no longer pay the costs for operating the device. “Titanic” star Kate Winslet found out about this and helped the family with a generous donation.

Kate Winslet has shown a big heart when the 47-year-old actress gave a £17,000 ($25,000) hand to a child with cerebral palsy, MailOnline reports. The mother should be able to use the money to cover the costs of her daughter’s life-sustaining measures.

12-year-old Freya has severe cerebral palsy and is dependent on oxygen because of chronic breathing problems. The cost of running the oxygen apparatus and heating the home has so far been around £6,500. However, due to the energy crisis, they are threatening to rise to £17,000. An amount that Caroline Hunter from Scotland is unable to pay.

BBC Scotland drew attention to the situation of the 49-year-old, which prompted a fundraising campaign to be launched. Hunter could hardly believe that actress Kate Winslet was involved with 17,000 pounds: “When I heard about the money, I burst into tears, I thought it was not true,” she recalls. Although the “Titanic” star himself wished her well, she still thinks, “Is this real?”

It’s not the first time that Kate Winslet has been socially involved. The actress is a patron of Family Haven, a charity that helps underprivileged and vulnerable families in Gloucestershire, southern England. Her commitment to families is no coincidence: she herself is a mother of three children. Mia, Joe and Bear hail from their relationships with Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes and from their current marriage to Abel Smith.
