Erfurt (dpa/th) – Thuringian cities are preparing for the Christmas season: Since Tuesday, work has been going on in the state capital to install all 385 lighting elements by the start of the Christmas market on November 22nd. According to the city, up to eight employees of the city’s road depot are on the road throughout the city, including all districts.
A total of around 14 kilometers of light chains and hoses as well as around 230,000 energy-saving LEDs will light up in Erfurt. Because of the energy crisis, there are no fairy lights on Christmas trees or stars over shopping arcades in some German cities. The electricity costs for the Erfurt Christmas decorations would be around 5000 euros, the city informed weeks ago. The costs and benefits clearly speak in favor of switching on the light despite the energy crisis.
In Gera, too, it should soon shine again. Traditionally, the Christmas lights are put on here two weeks before the “Fairy Tale Market”. A spokeswoman dated the start of the work to be next week. The Gera Christmas market starts on November 24th.
