The Professional Football League (LFP) pronounced on Wednesday August 23 “as a precaution” the “immediate and total closure of the François-Coty stadium” in Ajaccio, after the violent incidents which marred the match of the 3rd day of Ligue 2 against Bordeaux Monday.

“In view of the seriousness of the facts, the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP decides to put the file under investigation and pronounces, as a precaution, the immediate and total closure of the François Coty stadium”, writes the LFP in its press release. The final decision will be made at the end of the session on Wednesday, September 6, at 6 p.m., during which the instructor will submit his report.

After ten minutes of play, violence erupted in the stands on Monday when Ajaccio supporters attacked Girondin supporters who had made the trip despite the prefectural decree prohibiting them from access to the François-Coty stadium.

In videos posted on social networks, we can see Ajaccio supporters throwing seats, a ladder and other elements of the stadium furniture at visitors, who were finally exfiltrated by the police. The match, which ended in a draw (0-0), had been interrupted for nearly an hour due to the violence.

These incidents resulted in six minor injuries among Bordeaux supporters, while two stewards were affected, according to the prefecture, which announced that administrative stadium ban measures would be taken against the respondents.

A judicial investigation was also opened by the public prosecutor of Ajaccio to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of violence.

The Disciplinary Committee also imposed two firm suspension matches and one suspended sentence on the captain of Olympique Lyonnais Alexandre Lacazette, excluded in the 80th minute of the match against Montpellier (1-4) last Saturday for a gesture of humor on Téji Savannah.
