Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – Discus thrower Julia Harting is leaving SCC Berlin and will start for SC Neubrandenburg on January 1, 2023. On Thursday, the 32-year-old explained her decision on the DLV website Leichtathletik.de with her long-standing collaboration with Dieter Kollark. Without his help, she would have ended her career, said the third at the 2016 European Championship, who gave birth to twins in 2019. “I gave it my all for three years, but ever since the children were born I was just exhausted. My body wasn’t ready for competitive sports for two years after I was born.”
Although she trained well again last year, “it didn’t go as we had imagined.” Harting, who will continue to work with her long-time coach Torsten Lönnfors, added: “Inside I was almost done, I just needed a change of location. Dieter Kollark then nursed me back and explained to me factually why it wasn’t going well .”
Kollark had led shot putter Astrid Kumbernuss to her third world championship gold after she became a mother. Harting now wants to benefit from this experience. Their goal is the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
