Erfurt (dpa/th) – According to the Ministry of Finance, property tax returns for around 498,000 properties are now available in Thuringia. The ministry announced on Thursday that this corresponds to a tax rate of around 40 percent. The tax authorities are expecting a total of 1.25 million declarations from the owners. In view of the declarations submitted so far, the deadline for submission was recently extended – to January 31, 2023. According to the original plans, they should have been available by the end of October.
“Although the submission deadline has been extended, we are still appealing for a timely declaration to be able to secure the property tax revenue for the municipalities,” said Thuringia’s Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) in a statement. She is convinced that many owners will complete their property tax returns this year. At the moment it can be felt that many people are now dealing with the topic for the first time. The new property tax will then be due from January 1, 2025.
