Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The expansion of wind power in Hesse is picking up again. Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir and Environment Minister Priska Hinz (both Greens) announced on Thursday in Wiesbaden that 45 new plants had been approved in the first three quarters of this year. That is as many permits as in the entire previous year and three times as many as in 2020. In the middle of the year, 1162 wind turbines were in operation in Hesse, and another 57 were about to be commissioned.

Hesse has reserved around two percent of the state area for wind turbines, explained Al-Wazir. “We are already meeting the federal government’s requirements for 2027.” The task now is to develop these areas quickly.

The establishment of new positions at the Hessian Administrative Court is also planned for this purpose, since a large part of the wind energy projects in Hesse are still being complained about. According to the minister, lawsuits were being filed against 74 approved plants by the middle of the year. Likewise, 64 refusals were challenged.
