The port of Rostock also wants to establish itself as a car transshipment point on the market. The vehicles are to be transported primarily to the north and east. Geographically, there is a lot to be said for it.

Rostock (dpa/mv) – Vehicle handling has started at the new car terminal in Rostock’s overseas port. The first batch included almost 1,200 cars that came by ship from Zeebrugge in Belgium, as terminal manager Steffen Weber told the German Press Agency. “The terminal was a third full.” The cars came from Japan and were destined for the European domestic market, in this case primarily for Poland.

The first order came at short notice. Work is being done on train connections for onward transport from Rostock. However, the routes are currently full. Therefore, the vehicles were further transported by road. According to Weber, 40 trucks with six to seven cars were on the move every day.

The port’s first Autolink terminal, which opened in September, is around 75,000 square meters. 3200 vehicles have space there. According to the company, around 150,000 cars are to be handled every year. It is primarily about new cars that are to be transported in the direction of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.
