Fuschl am See/Munich (dpa/lby) – FC Bayern Munich paid tribute to the late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz. “Our heartfelt condolences go to Dieter Mateschitz’s family and relatives,” said club president Herbert Hainer on Sunday. “He was a great supporter of the sport and a crucial support for FC Bayern Basketball in the implementation of the SAP Garden that is now being created.”
Mateschitz died on Saturday at the age of 78. The Austrian, together with Uli Hoeneß, was once instrumental in the decision to build a new multifunctional arena in Munich’s Olympic Park.
The so-called SAP Garden is expected to open in spring 2024 after construction delays. The hall will be the second venue for the Bayern basketball team and the new home of EHC Red Bull Munich from the German Ice Hockey League.
