Verl (dpa / lnw) – In the Gütersloh district, a third outbreak of avian influenza was confirmed within a few days. The district announced on Friday that an attitude in Verl with around 5,900 chickens, around 1,100 geese and 1,700 ducks was affected. The entire stock was killed. During the first outbreak in the Gütersloh district last weekend, a position in Rietberg was affected. The second case was a smaller stock also in Verl.

In NRW, avian influenza reappeared for the first time in six months at the beginning of October. A hobby in Bottrop was affected.

Avian influenza is a viral, highly contagious infectious disease affecting livestock and other birds. The risk of infection for humans is considered low.
