Kirchentellinsfurt (dpa/lsw) – After a basement fire in a high-rise building in Kirchentellinsfurt (Tübingen district), the police arrested a resident on suspicion of serious arson. As the police announced on Friday, the investigators assume that the 23-year-old deliberately set fire to one of the basement compartments on Thursday evening.
The fire brigade had to bring more than 80 residents to safety because of the fire, including with the help of turntable ladders. One person was taken to the hospital for outpatient treatment for suspected smoke inhalation.
Residents were briefly taken to a nearby gym but were able to return to their homes that night. Ultimately, it was just a small fire in the basement of the building, which the fire brigade put out after about an hour, said a police spokesman for the German Press Agency. According to police, the fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. Officials estimate the damage at more than 10,000 euros. The investigations are ongoing.
