Gießen (dpa/lhe) – Because thieves were apparently targeting cables, the power failed in some central Hessian municipalities. Gießen and other communities were affected, as the police announced on Friday. She assumes that strangers cut a line in a distribution building, probably to steal the non-ferrous metal contained in the cable. The perpetrator or perpetrators apparently did not know that the cable was live. Its cutting is “highly likely” to be the cause of the power outage on Thursday evening. There are currently no other indications. The cable damage was discovered on Friday by employees of the local energy supplier.
