Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – After the faction, the party has now strengthened the CDU country leader Thomas Strobl in the so-called letter affair. “We stand by Thomas Strobl,” said General Secretary Isabell Huber on Friday morning. Late on Thursday evening, Strobl informed the presidium about an offer from the public prosecutor’s office to end the proceedings with a monetary condition.
“With the acceptance of this offer, the proceedings are over and Thomas Strobl is considered innocent. As our interior minister, he is doing a great job for more security in our country,” emphasized Huber. “In these times of crisis, we are devoting all our energy to the major challenges – that is our focus.”
In the evening, Strobl declared in the CDU parliamentary group that he wanted to pay a fine of 15,000 euros so that the proceedings against him would be discontinued. He had forwarded a letter from a lawyer to a journalist. The CDU parliamentary group also made it clear that they saw no reason to resign in accepting the public prosecutor’s offer.
